Airport Planning
& Development

During 1996/7, Matingi & Associates as part of The Consortium Nederland’s Airport Company (NACO), Africon Engineers, Ndodana Becker Engineers and PWP Architect were appointed to develop a Master plan of OR Tambo (Former Johannesburg International Airport which was approved and implemented since 1998.

Subsequent to this appointment by ACSA, M&A was further appointed to address the following;
-Rezoning of the Western Precincts- OR Tambo Airport-1998
-Southern Precinct Planning by ACSA – OR Tambo International Airport -1998 -IDZ- OR International Airport by Denel in collaboration with ACSA. -
During 2005, ACSA reappointed the consortium led by NACO & Stewart Scott excluding Africon to review the Master plan which was done and approved in 2006.

During 2008, ACSA appointed a consortium of technical specialist and contractors led by WBHO, Group 5 to Develop Ushaka International Airport at Ethekwini (KZN). James Matingi Ngobeni was appointed as the Chairman of Ilembe Board which was charged with the responsibility to drive and oversea the development. The project which was targeted for 2010 World Cup was successfully executed and handed over to ACSA in April 2010.

During 2009, Matingi & Associates was appointed to form part of the Consortium to be responsible for the development of the Midfield Terminal building at OR Tambo International Airport.
